Biography
Steve Gainer is an American cinematographer, director and producer. He was born on 25 October 1962 in Alexandria, Louisiana.
His cinematography credits include Bully (2001), Mysterious Skin (2004), Punisher: War Zone (2008), Super (2010), A Haunted House (2013) and segments of Movie 43 (2013). He has also worked as a camera operator on films such as Donnie Darko (2001). Gainer directed episodes of the MTV series Awkward and won a Daytime Emmy Award in 2014 for a promotional announcement related to the series.
He is a member of the American Society of Cinematographers, where he has served as museum curator, as well as the Directors Guild of America and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. In 2026 he became executive director of the Fort Caspar Museum.
