Biography
Su Cong, also credited as Cong Su or 蘇聰, is a Chinese composer. He studied composition at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing and later in Germany, including at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München.
He contributed to the soundtrack of Bernardo Bertolucci’s The Last Emperor (1987), sharing the Academy Award for Best Original Score with Ryuichi Sakamoto and David Byrne; the album also won a Grammy. His other film scores include Miracles: The Canton Godfather (1989), Cell Phone (2003), Green Tea (2002) and Jasmine Women (2004). Since 1991 he has been professor of film and media composition at the State Film Academy in the Stuttgart area, and he divides his time between Beijing, Lake Constance and Lucca, Italy.
