Biography
Suleika Jaouad is an American writer, journalist and advocate. Born in New York City on 5 July 1988, she studied at the Juilliard School’s pre-college programme, Princeton University and Bennington College. She wrote the New York Times column “Life, Interrupted” and the bestselling memoir Between Two Kingdoms (2021), which recounts her experience of acute myeloid leukaemia diagnosed at age 22.
Jaouad appears as herself in the 2023 Netflix documentary American Symphony, which follows her and her husband, musician Jon Batiste, through a period that included the return of her cancer and a second bone marrow transplant. She is also credited as an executive producer on the film. She has written for Vogue, Glamour and NPR, and created the Isolation Journals project.
