Biography
Susan Peters, also credited as Suzanne Carnahan, was an American actress who appeared in more than twenty films during a decade-long career. Born in Spokane, Washington, she began with small, often uncredited roles at Warner Bros. before signing with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in 1942. That year she had a featured role as Kitty in Random Harvest, for which she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
Peters went on to star in several MGM productions, including Young Ideas (1943), Assignment in Brittany (1943), Song of Russia (1944) and Keep Your Powder Dry (1945). On New Year's Day 1945 she suffered a spinal cord injury from an accidental gunshot wound during a hunting trip, which left her permanently paraplegic. She returned to the screen as a wheelchair-using character in The Sign of the Ram (1948).
Peters also worked in theatre, playing Laura Wingfield in a 1949 production of The Glass Menagerie and Elizabeth Barrett Browning in The Barretts of Wimpole Street. She was married to actor and director Richard Quine from 1943 to 1948. She died in 1952 at the age of 31.
