Biography
Suzanne Schiffman (née Klochendler) was a French screenwriter, assistant director and script supervisor. Born in Paris in 1929, she studied art history at the Sorbonne. She entered the film industry in the late 1950s as a continuity clerk, working first with Jacques Rivette on Paris Belongs to Us (1961) and then with Jean-Luc Godard and François Truffaut on numerous New Wave productions.
Schiffman collaborated closely with Truffaut on around twenty films, progressing from script supervisor to co-writer and assistant director. She received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay for Day for Night (1973) and shared a César Award for the screenplay of The Last Metro (1980). She also worked with Rivette and Godard on multiple projects, and later directed The Monk and the Sorceress (1986). Schiffman died in Paris in 2001.
