Biography
Syamsul Arifin was an Indonesian politician who served as Governor of North Sumatra from June 2008 until his dismissal in March 2011. He appeared as himself in the 2012 documentary film The Act of Killing, credited as Self - Governor of North Sumatra.
Born in Medan on 22 September 1952, Arifin had previously held office as Regent of Langkat for two terms. He died in Jakarta on 17 October 2023.
