Biography
Syd Macartney is a British director and former cinematographer. He was born on 24 July 1954 in Ballymena, County Antrim, Northern Ireland. He trained as a lighting cameraman at the National Film School and worked as director of photography on the series The Living Body and the feature films Party Party (1983) and Underworld (1985).
Macartney began directing with commercials and later moved into television and film. He is known for directing episodes of Call the Midwife (2016–2025), The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles (1992), The Canterville Ghost (1996) and A Love Divided (1999). He has also directed episodes of Last Tango in Halifax (2015) and other series.
