Biography

T. J. English is an American author, journalist and screenwriter. Born in Tacoma, Washington, he moved to New York City in 1981, where he worked as a freelance journalist and taxi driver while beginning his writing career.

English is best known for his non-fiction books on organised crime, including The Westies (1990), Born to Kill (1995), Paddy Whacked (2005) and The Savage City (2011). He has also written for television, contributing story and teleplay credits to episodes of the series NYPD Blue (1993) and Homicide: Life on the Street (1993). He shared a Humanitas Prize for an episode of the latter.
