Biography

Tab Murphy is an American screenwriter, film producer and director. He attended Washington State University, studying forestry and wildlife biology, before transferring to the University of Southern California to study directing and screenwriting.

His first major credit was the story for Gorillas in the Mist (1988), which earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium. He made his directorial debut with Last of the Dogmen (1995), which he also wrote. Murphy then spent nearly a decade at Disney, contributing to the screenplays or stories for The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996), Tarzan (1999), Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001) and Brother Bear (2003).

Later work includes screenplays for Warner Bros. Animation projects such as Batman: Year One (2011) and Superman/Batman: Apocalypse (2010), as well as the thriller Dark Country (2009).
