Biography
Tarik Saleh is a Swedish film director, screenwriter, animator and producer. Born on 28 January 1972 in Stockholm to a Swedish mother and an Egyptian father, he began his career as a prominent graffiti artist in the late 1980s and early 1990s before working as a journalist and television host.
His feature directorial debut was the animated film Metropia (2009). He is best known for the Cairo trilogy of political thrillers starring Fares Fares: The Nile Hilton Incident (2017), which won the World Cinema Grand Jury Prize at Sundance and Best Film at the Guldbagge Awards; Boy from Heaven (2022, also known as Cairo Conspiracy), which competed at Cannes and won Best Screenplay there; and Eagles of the Republic (2025). He has also directed episodes of the series Westworld (2018) and Ray Donovan (2018), and the Hollywood film The Contractor (2022). Saleh is a co-founder of the production company Atmo.
