Biography
Ted Ross was an American actor. Born Theodore Ross Roberts on 30 June 1934 in Zanesville, Ohio, he moved with his family to Dayton at the age of seven. He began his career in clubs and on stage before appearing in film and television.
Ross won a Tony Award for his performance as the Lion in the 1975 Broadway production of The Wiz and reprised the role in the 1978 film. He is also known for playing Bitterman in Arthur (1981) and its 1988 sequel, Captain Reed in Police Academy (1984), and Limo Bum in The Fisher King (1991), his final film role. On television he had a recurring role as Dean Harris in The Cosby Show and A Different World, and appeared in series including The Jeffersons and Benson.
Ross died on 3 September 2002 in Dayton, Ohio, aged 68.
