Biography
Teru Shimada (born Akira Shimada) was a Japanese-American actor. He was born on 17 November 1905 in Mito, Japan, and emigrated to the United States in the early 1930s. He appeared in supporting roles in Hollywood films and television from the 1930s onwards, often portraying Japanese or Asian characters.
Shimada is best known for playing Mr. Osato in the James Bond film You Only Live Twice (1967). Other credits include Tokyo Joe (1949), The War of the Worlds (1953), Run Silent, Run Deep (1958), King Rat (1965), Walk Don't Run (1966), Batman (1966), and an episode of The Six Million Dollar Man (1974). He retired in the mid-1970s and died on 19 June 1988 in Encino, California.
