Biography
Thara Popoola is a British screenwriter and writer for television and stage. A graduate of the 2021 4Screenwriting scheme, she has contributed to series including Sex Education (Netflix, 2023), Queenie (Channel 4, 2024), Crongton (BBC, 2025), Black Ops (BBC, 2026) and Dreaming Whilst Black (BBC Three/A24, 2025).
She has written additional material and episodes for the second series of Dreaming Whilst Black, including the episode 'Blackwash'. Popoola was nominated for Outstanding Breakthrough Creative in Television at the 2024 NAACP Image Awards and was named one of Broadcast’s Hot Shots 2025. She also secured a place on the Creative Europe MEDIA European Showrunner Programme.
Before entering screenwriting, Popoola worked in the legal and financial sectors. Her short film Jobless (2023) was produced for Zeppotron/BBC, and she has several original projects in development.
