Biography
Thomas Gomez (10 July 1905 – 18 June 1971) was an American actor. Born Sabino Tomás Gómez in New York City, he began his career in theatre in 1923 and studied under actor Walter Hampden. He made his film debut in Sherlock Holmes and the Voice of Terror (1942) and went on to appear in around sixty films.
Gomez received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Ride the Pink Horse (1947), becoming the first Hispanic-American nominee for the award. His other film roles include Key Largo (1948), Force of Evil (1948), The Furies (1950), Trapeze (1956) and his final film Beneath the Planet of the Apes (1970). He was also a frequent guest on television series such as The Twilight Zone, Bewitched and Gunsmoke, and appeared in the original Broadway production of A Man for All Seasons.
