Biography

Tom Aldredge was an American actor known for his work in theatre, film and television. Born Thomas Ernest Aldredge on 28 February 1928 in Dayton, Ohio, he died on 22 July 2011 in Tampa, Florida.

His Broadway career, which began with a 1959 debut in The Nervous Set, spanned five decades and brought five Tony Award nominations. He originated the dual roles of the Narrator and the Mysterious Man in the original Broadway production of Into the Woods (1987) and received a Drama Desk Award for Sticks and Bones (1972).

On screen he appeared in films including batteries not included (1987) as Sid Hogenson, What About Bob? (1991), Rounders (1998), Cold Mountain (2003) and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007). Television credits include a recurring role as Hugh DeAngelis in The Sopranos, appearances in Boardwalk Empire and a Daytime Emmy Award for Henry Winkler Meets William Shakespeare (1978). He was married to costume designer Theoni V. Aldredge from 1953 until her death in 2011.
