Biography
Tom Helmore (also credited as Thomas Percy Helmore) was an English actor. He appeared in more than 50 films between 1927 and 1972, as well as on stage and television.
Born in London, he began as an extra while working in his father's accounting firm before pursuing acting professionally, primarily on the London stage and later on Broadway. His Broadway work, including in the 1945 musical The Day Before Spring, led to a Hollywood career in which he was often cast as a dapper comedic actor.
Helmore is best known for playing Gavin Elster in Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo (1958). He also appeared in Hitchcock's The Ring (1927) and Secret Agent (1936), and in films such as The Tender Trap (1955), Designing Woman (1957), The Time Machine (1960) and Advise & Consent (1962). He died in Longboat Key, Florida.
