Biography
Tom Piazza is an American novelist, nonfiction writer and screenwriter. He has written twelve books, including the novels City of Refuge and A Free State, the post-Hurricane Katrina work Why New Orleans Matters, the short-story collection Blues and Trouble, and the essay collection Devil Sent the Rain. He is also known as a music writer.
Piazza studied at Williams College and the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. He moved to New Orleans in 1994. He contributed as a writer to the HBO series Treme (2010–2012), with teleplay and story credits on three episodes. He won a Grammy Award for his album notes to Martin Scorsese Presents The Blues: A Musical Journey. He lives in New Orleans.
