Biography
Tom Thon is an American actor, also credited as Thomas E. Thon. He was born in Peoria, Illinois, and moved to New York in 1948. After serving in the US Air Force in Vietnam, he studied industrial engineering and worked in the space and defence industry before becoming a division director for United Way of Long Island.
Thon began acting through community theatre in 1980 and joined the actors' union. He appeared as an extra in films including Silent Madness (1984), Prizzi's Honour (1985) and Last Exit to Brooklyn (1989). His early screen credits include the Deli Man in Trust (1990) and the News Vendor in The Unbelievable Truth (1989). He has since appeared in television series such as Preacher (2017) as the Pope, MacGyver (2020) as Thomas Edison, Manhunt (2017) as a political science professor, and The Good Lord Bird (2020) as an ancient man, as well as the film Juror #2 (2024) as an elderly man. Since 1993 he has lived and worked in Atlanta, Georgia.
