Biography

Tomaso Giovanni Albinoni was an Italian composer of the Baroque era. Born in Venice on 8 June 1671, he came from a prosperous family of paper merchants and pursued music as a dilettante while working in the family business.

His output includes operas, concertos, sonatas, sinfonias and cantatas. He is particularly noted for his instrumental works and for being among the first Italian composers to write oboe concertos. The Adagio in G minor for strings and organ, long attributed to him, features in the soundtrack of the 1981 film Gallipoli.
