Biography
Toyomichi Kurita is a Japanese cinematographer. Born in 1950 in Mito, Ibaraki, Japan, he graduated from the AFI Conservatory in 1981.
He has worked on films in both Japan and the United States. His credits include A Rage in Harlem (1991), Waiting to Exhale (1995), Cookie's Fortune (1999), First Daughter (2004), Sukiyaki Western Django (2007), Madea's Family Reunion (2006), Why Did I Get Married? (2007) and Madea's Big Happy Family (2011). He has collaborated with directors including Alan Rudolph, Tyler Perry and Takashi Miike.
Kurita won the Independent Spirit Award for Best Cinematography for Trouble in Mind (1985) and the Sitges Film Festival award for Best Cinematography for Sukiyaki Western Django (2007). He received nominations for the Independent Spirit Award for The Moderns (1988) and Powwow Highway (1989), and for the Japan Academy Film Prize for Taboo (1999).
