Biography
Trần Anh Hùng is a French-Vietnamese film director and screenwriter. He was born on 23 December 1962 in Đà Nẵng, South Vietnam, and moved to France at the age of 12 following the end of the Vietnam War in 1975. He studied philosophy before training in film and photography at the École nationale supérieure Louis-Lumière.
His first three feature films form a Vietnam trilogy: The Scent of Green Papaya (1993), Cyclo (1995) and The Vertical Ray of the Sun (2000). Cyclo won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival. He has also directed Norwegian Wood (2010), Eternity (2016) and The Taste of Things (2023), on which he is credited as both director and screenwriter.
Hùng is married to actress and costume designer Trần Nữ Yên Khê, who has collaborated on several of his films.
