Biography
Trevor Paglen is an American artist, geographer and cinematographer. He studied at the University of California, Berkeley, where he earned a BA in religious studies and a PhD in geography, and received an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
Paglen contributed cinematography to the 2014 documentary Citizenfour, directed by Laura Poitras, alongside Kirsten Johnson and others. His wider practice examines state secrecy, surveillance and military infrastructure through photography, sculpture and writing. He has received awards including a MacArthur Fellowship in 2017 and the Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize in 2016.
