Biography

Tristram Jellinek was a British actor and antiques dealer. Born in London on 28 August 1933, he completed national service with the RAF before winning a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, graduating in 1956. He began his career in repertory theatre and made early West End appearances, including in The Visit (1959) directed by Peter Brook.

His film roles included Major Crumpler in Top Secret! (1984), the First Commissioner in Out of Africa (1985), Chalky White in Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes (1984), and parts in Another Country (1984), White Mischief (1987) and M. Butterfly (1993). He also worked in television, including The Saint (1962) and One Foot in the Grave (1993). In later years he was associated with the Glasgow Citizens' Theatre. Jellinek died in London on 4 November 1995.
