Biography
Tsai Kuo-jung is a Taiwanese screenwriter, film critic and journalist. Born in 1951, he graduated from the National Academy of Art with a degree in drama and motion pictures. He began writing screenplays in 1977 and has worked on films, television dramas and theatrical productions, later serving as editor-in-chief of the Taiwan Cinema Yearbook and as a teacher at his alma mater and Shih Hsin University.
He is best known for co-writing the screenplay for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000) with Wang Hui-ling and James Schamus. The film received nominations for Best Adapted Screenplay at the Academy Awards and the Golden Horse Awards. Earlier credits include the screenplay for Calamity of Snakes (1982), and he has received an Excellent Screenplay Award in 1987 along with further television writing credits.
