Biography
Tsuyoshi Ihara (also credited as 伊原 剛志) is a Japanese actor of Korean descent. Born Yun Yu-gu on 6 November 1963 in Kitakyūshū, Fukuoka, he grew up in Ikuno-ku, Osaka, and graduated from Imamiya Senior High School in Naniwa-ku, Osaka. After leaving school he joined Sonny Chiba's Japan Action Club and began working in films and television.
He is known for his role as Colonel Baron Nishi in Clint Eastwood's Letters from Iwo Jima (2006), as well as appearances in Gamera: Guardian of the Universe (1995), 13 Assassins (2010), Last Knights (2015) and Ramen Shop (2018). Ihara received Japanese citizenship in 1995. He has also written a book and made his debut as a rakugo performer in 2016.
