Biography

Tucker Smith (born Thomas William Smith) was an American actor, dancer and singer. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he moved to New York City in 1955 after winning an American Theatre Wing scholarship. He joined the national tour of Damn Yankees and appeared in replacement roles, including Diesel and Snowboy, in the original Broadway production of West Side Story.

Smith played the role of Ice in the 1961 film adaptation of West Side Story, performing the song "Cool". His other film credits include The Producers (1968) as lead dancer, Hello, Dolly! (1969) as a dancer and To Be or Not to Be (1983). He also appeared on Broadway in Anyone Can Whistle (1964). Smith died in Los Angeles, California, on 22 December 1988.
