Biography
Tudor Gates (2 January 1930 – 11 January 2007) was a British screenwriter, playwright and trade unionist. He began his career in stage management in the early 1950s and wrote in his spare time. His first television play, The Guv'nor, was broadcast in 1955 (or 1956), after which he became a full-time writer.
Gates wrote or co-wrote screenplays for films including Barbarella (1968), Danger: Diabolik (1968), The Vampire Lovers (1970), Fright (1971), Lust for a Vampire (1971) and Twins of Evil (1971). He also contributed to television series such as The Sweeney (one episode, 1975) and Strange Report. In the mid-1970s he returned to the stage with successful West End plays including Who Saw Him Die? (1974) and Who Killed Agatha Christie? (1978). A lifelong trade unionist, he served as president of the Association of Cinematograph Television and Allied Technicians and later as vice-president of BECTU.
