Biography
Udo Samel is a German actor. He was born on 25 June 1953 in Trier-Eitelsbach, Germany. After studying Slavonic studies and philosophy, he trained at the Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Frankfurt am Main from 1974 to 1976. He began his career in theatre, with early work at the Staatstheater Darmstadt and Schauspielhaus Düsseldorf, before joining the Berliner Schaubühne in 1978.
Samel has appeared in more than 80 films and television shows since 1977. His film debut was in Messer im Kopf (1978). He is known for roles including Dr. George Blonskij in The Piano Teacher (2001), Ernst Gennat in Babylon Berlin (2017), Alexander in The Seventh Continent (1989), and Franz Schubert in Mit meinen heißen Tränen (1986). He also appeared in Back to Square One (1994), which was entered into the 44th Berlin International Film Festival.
