Biography
Ugla Hauksdóttir is an Icelandic film and television director and screenwriter. She studied photography and experimental filmmaking at Cooper Union in New York and earned an MFA in screenwriting and directing from Columbia University.
She began her career with short films including Salt (2014), How Far She Went (2017) and Sealskin (2020). In 2016 she received the Directors Guild of America Student Film Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in the women's category for How Far She Went and became the first Icelandic woman to join the Directors Guild of America.
Her television credits include episodes of the Icelandic series Trapped (2019), Hanna (2020), Snowfall (2021), The Power (2023) and two episodes of Alien: Earth (2025). Her debut feature film, The Fires (2025), which she also wrote, premiered in 2025.
