Biography
Urbain Cancelier is a French actor and comedian, born on 2 August 1959 in Paris. He has worked primarily in theatre since the early 1980s, appearing in more than thirty plays, often under the direction of Bernard Murat in works by Georges Feydeau. He was spotted by Jean-Michel Ribes and joined the television series Palace in 1988.
His film role as the grocer Collignon in Jean-Pierre Jeunet's Amélie (2001) brought him wider recognition. He has collaborated further with Jeunet on A Very Long Engagement (2004) and Micmacs (2009). Other film credits include Mr. Bean's Holiday (2007), La Belle Époque (2019) and R.A.I.D. Special Unit (2017). In 2015 he received a Molière Award nomination for his stage performance in Le Système.
