Biography
Vernon Layton is a British cinematographer. He began in fashion photography before training as a camera operator at Rediffusion and working on light entertainment, studio dramas and pop programmes at LWT. He became one of the leading commercial directors of photography in London and Europe, collaborating with directors including Ridley Scott, Tony Scott and Adrian Lyne.
Layton’s feature debut as director of photography was McVicar (1980). He shot episodes of the series The Professionals (1977) and Agatha Christie’s Poirot (1989). His other credits include The Englishman Who Went Up a Hill But Came Down a Mountain (1995), I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998), Blackball (2003) and Seed of Chucky (2004). He later worked on Day of the Flowers (2012), which he also associate-produced. Layton is a member of the British Society of Cinematographers.
