Biography

Viktors Lorencs (also credited as Viktor Lorents) was a Latvian actor and screenwriter. Born in Riga on 30 July 1927, he studied at the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography (VGIK) in Moscow from 1954 to 1961, becoming Latvia’s first professional film screenwriter.

He wrote screenplays for films including Hullumeelsus (1969) and Ceplis (1972), and appeared as an actor in Come and See (1985) as a Sturmbannführer and in Fate of a Man (1959) as a one-eyed German officer (uncredited). He also played the lead role of Eduard Sõrmus in Punane viiul (1975). Lorencs was named Honoured Artist of the Latvian SSR in 1987. He died in Riga on 26 January 1992.
