Biography
Vinay Patel is a British-Indian screenwriter and playwright. He wrote the Doctor Who episodes Demons of the Punjab (2018) and, with Chris Chibnall, Fugitive of the Judoon (2020). He also contributed an episode to the Netflix adaptation of One Day (2024).
Patel was born in Sidcup, South East London. He graduated with a BA in English from the University of Exeter and an MA in writing from the Central School of Speech and Drama in 2011. Before focusing on writing he worked as a corporate filmmaker and technician at the Met Film School. His early plays include True Brits (2014) and An Adventure (2018). His television debut was the single drama Murdered by My Father (2016).
Patel is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature. His Doctor Who episode Demons of the Punjab received a Hugo Award nomination.
