Biography
Vivian Blaine (born Vivian Stapleton) was an American actress and singer. She began performing in vaudeville as a child and toured as a band singer before signing with Twentieth Century-Fox in 1942. Her early film roles included Susan Cowan in Jitterbugs (1943) and Emily Edwards in State Fair (1945).
Blaine originated the role of Miss Adelaide in the 1950 Broadway production of Guys and Dolls, which ran for 1,200 performances, and reprised it in the 1955 film adaptation. She appeared on Broadway in other productions including A Hatful of Rain, Say, Darling, Enter Laughing and Company, and made later film and television appearances including in The Dark (1979) and Parasite (1982). She died in 1995.
