Biography
Vladimir Cosma is a Romanian composer, conductor and violinist who has worked primarily in France. Born on 13 April 1940 in Bucharest, he comes from a family of musicians. He received first prizes in violin and composition at the Bucharest Conservatory before moving to Paris in 1963, where he studied at the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique with Nadia Boulanger.
He began composing for film in 1968 with Yves Robert’s Alexandre le Bienheureux and has since written scores for more than three hundred feature films and television productions. Notable credits include The Mad Adventures of Rabbi Jacob (1973), The Party (1980), Diva (1981), La Chèvre (1981), Santa Claus Is a Stinker (1982), The Wing or the Thigh? (1976), Asterix vs. Caesar (1985), Asterix in Britain (1986), The Dinner Game (1998) and The Closet (2001). He received César Awards for best original score for Diva (1981) and Le Bal (1984).
