Biography
Walter D. Dishell, M.D. is an American otolaryngologist and plastic surgeon who has worked as a medical consultant and writer for television. He trained in plastic surgery at UCLA after medical school at the University of Michigan.
Dishell served as medical advisor on the series MASH for its full run from 1972 to 1983, advising on 251 episodes to ensure period-accurate depictions of Korean War military medicine. He co-wrote the 1979 episode Life Time* with Alan Alda.
He has also acted as medical advisor or consultant on series including Medical Center, Trapper John, M.D. and Knots Landing, and worked as medical reporter for NBC News from 1983 to 1985.
