Biography
Ward Crane (also credited as Warde Crane) was an American silent film actor. Born in Albany, New York, he worked in state government before serving in the US Navy during the First World War. He entered films in 1919 and appeared in dozens of productions, often playing leading men or villains.
Crane is best remembered for his role as the Local Sheik and the villain opposite Buster Keaton in Sherlock Jr. (1924). Other credits include an uncredited part in The Phantom of the Opera (1925) and appearances in Empty Hands (1924), How Baxter Butted In (1925) and Upstage (1926). He died of pneumonia in Saranac Lake, New York, in 1928, aged 38.
