Biography
Waris Islam is a writer and director working in film, television and radio.
He began his career writing for the BBC Radio drama series Silver Street and directing short films including Short (2004) and The Family Portrait (2004). He directed episodes of Bishaash (2010–2011), Hollyoaks (2007–2008), EastEnders (2016–2019), Holby City (2019–2020), Vera (2022), The Bay (2024) and Emmerdale (2024–2025), and served as second unit director on Outlander.
Islam holds a BA in Film Studies and MAs in Screen Arts and Screenwriting. He is a member of BAFTA, Directors UK and the Royal Television Society.
