Biography
Warren J. Kemmerling (also credited as Warren Kemmerling) was an American film, stage and television actor. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, he attended Saint Louis University and served in the United States Marine Corps before beginning his professional career.
He made his Broadway debut in 1953 in the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical Me and Juliet and appeared in other stage productions including Pipe Dream and Ankles Aweigh. After moving to Hollywood, he worked extensively as a supporting player in television series such as Gunsmoke, Bonanza, The Twilight Zone and The A-Team, and in films including Family Plot (1976) and Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977), in which he played Major "Wild Bill" Walsh.
Kemmerling also portrayed President Lyndon B. Johnson in the 1978 miniseries King. He served for many years on the Screen Actors Guild board of directors and received a posthumous tribute at the SAG Awards following his death in Los Angeles in 2005.
