Biography
Wayne Morris (born Bert DeWayne Morris Jr.) was an American actor. Born in Los Angeles on 17 February 1914, he gained early acting experience at the Pasadena Playhouse and made his film debut in the mid-1930s. He appeared in the title role of Kid Galahad (1937) and later played Lieutenant Roget in Stanley Kubrick's Paths of Glory (1957).
During the Second World War Morris served as a US Navy fighter pilot, flying F6F Hellcats from the USS Essex. He was credited with seven aerial victories and received four Distinguished Flying Crosses and two Air Medals. After the war he resumed acting, appearing in numerous low-budget westerns and television episodes, including Alfred Hitchcock Presents and Gunsmoke. He died of a heart attack on 14 September 1959 while visiting the USS Bon Homme Richard and is buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
