Biography
Wilfred Babbage (2 May 1900 – 15 September 1984) was an English actor born in Bridgwater, Somerset. He appeared in a small uncredited role as the Policeman at War Memorial in David Lean’s Brief Encounter (1945).
His other screen credits include Major Gayne in Old Mother Riley’s New Venture (1949), the Judge in School for Sex (1969) and the Butler in The Tales of Beatrix Potter (1971). On television he played Det. Sgt. Quimby in the series The Six Proud Walkers (1954 and 1962) and Mr Wilkins in Jennings at School (1958). Babbage also worked extensively in the theatre, including with the Sir Ben Greet Players and at the Bristol Old Vic.
