Biography
Wilkie Cooper (19 October 1911 – 15 December 2001) was a British cinematographer. The son of silent-era cinematographer Douglas Percival Cooper, he began his career as a camera assistant at Denham Studios before becoming a director of photography in the 1940s at Ealing Studios.
He photographed several films for Frank Launder and Sidney Gilliat, including Green for Danger (1946) and London Belongs to Me (1948), and worked with Alfred Hitchcock on Stage Fright (1950). From the late 1950s he collaborated with special-effects artist Ray Harryhausen on The 7th Voyage of Sinbad (1958), Jason and the Argonauts (1963), First Men in the Moon (1964) and other fantasy productions. He also contributed to five episodes of the television series The Avengers (1961). Cooper retired in 1972.
