Biography
William Anthony McGuire (9 July 1881 – 16 September 1940) was an American playwright, theatre director, producer and screenwriter. Born in Chicago, Illinois, he made his Broadway debut in 1910 as author of the play The Heights.
McGuire wrote, directed and produced a series of Broadway musicals and plays during the 1920s, including Kid Boots (1923), Whoopee! (1928), The Three Musketeers (1928) and Rosalie (1928). He later worked in Hollywood, writing screenplays for films such as The Kid from Spain (1932) and Rosalie (1937).
His screenplay for the MGM musical The Great Ziegfeld (1936) earned him an Academy Award nomination. McGuire died in Beverly Hills, California.
