Biography
William Hurlbut, also credited as William J. Hurlbut, was an American screenwriter and playwright. Born in Belvidere, Illinois, he wrote numerous plays for Broadway from the 1900s onwards, including The Fighting Hope (1908) and Lilies of the Field (1921), before relocating to Hollywood in the early 1930s.
His screenwriting credits include Secret of the Blue Room (1933), Ladies Must Love (1933), Imitation of Life (1934) and, with John L. Balderston, the screenplay for Bride of Frankenstein (1935). He contributed to other films such as There's Always Tomorrow (1934) and Adam Had Four Sons (1941), and later wrote episodes for the television series Lux Video Theatre.
Hurlbut died in Hollywood, California, in 1957.
