Biography
William Lubtchansky was a French cinematographer. Born in Paris in 1937, he trained at the École Nationale Supérieure Louis-Lumière and began his career as an assistant to Willy Kurant before working on Agnès Varda’s short Elsa la Rose (1965).
He shot more than 90 films, with long collaborations including fourteen features with Jacques Rivette, six with Jean-Luc Godard and eleven with Jean-Marie Straub and Danièle Huillet. Among his credits are Duelle (1976), The Woman Next Door (1981), Shoah (1985), La Belle Noiseuse (1991) and Regular Lovers (2005). He also worked with François Truffaut, Philippe Garrel and Otar Iosseliani.
Lubtchansky died in Paris in 2010.
