Biography
William Richert was an American film director, screenwriter, producer and actor. Born in Florida in 1942, he began his career in Hollywood in the early 1960s and directed documentaries including Derby (1971) and A Dancer's Life (1972).
He wrote and directed the feature films Winter Kills (1979) and The American Success Company (1980), both starring Jeff Bridges. Richert adapted his own 1966 novel for A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon (1988), which he also directed. In 1991 he appeared as Bob Pigeon in Gus Van Sant's My Own Private Idaho.
Richert co-founded Invisible Studio in 1982 to re-edit and re-release his earlier films. He died in Portland, Oregon, on 19 July 2022.
