Biography
William Stanford Davis is an American actor. Born on 7 August 1951 in St. Louis, Missouri, he trained as a classically trained actor and worked in stage and screen roles after moving to Los Angeles in his thirties.
He is best known for playing school custodian Mr. Johnson on the ABC series Abbott Elementary (2021–present), initially appearing as a guest star before becoming a series regular. He has had recurring roles including Potato Pie on Ray Donovan (2013–2017) and Coach Max on Swagger (2021).
Davis received a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series for Abbott Elementary in 2022, with a further nomination in 2024, and won an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for the role.
