Biography

William Talman was an American actor born William Whitney Talman Jr. on 4 February 1915 in Detroit, Michigan. He appeared on Broadway in productions including Beverly Hills and Spring Again, and toured in road companies of Yokel Boy and Of Mice and Men before beginning his screen career in the late 1940s.

He is best known for playing Los Angeles District Attorney Hamilton Burger in the CBS series Perry Mason (1957–1966). His film roles include Dave Purvis in Armored Car Robbery (1950), Officer Bob Johnson in The Racket (1951), Emmett Myers in The Hitch-Hiker (1953) and appearances in One Minute to Zero (1952) and Big House, U.S.A. (1955). He also guest-starred in series such as Gunsmoke, Have Gun – Will Travel and The Wild Wild West.

Talman died of lung cancer in Encino, California, on 30 August 1968.
