Biography
Yamato Kochi is a Japanese actor born on 3 December 1978 in Iwakuni, Yamaguchi Prefecture. He trained and began his career in theatre at Niigata University and the Niigata-City Performing Arts Center, specialising in Shakespearean roles. He later founded the Shakespeare company G.GARAGE/// and has performed in productions directed by Yukio Ninagawa and Hideki Noda.
Kochi's television debut came in the 2023 TBS series Vivant. His breakthrough film role was as the Walking Man in Exit 8 (2025), for which he received the Newcomer of the Year award at the 49th Japan Academy Film Prize in 2026. Subsequent credits include Hitman from Today (2023) and the 2026 film The Samurai and the Prisoner.
