Biography

Yang Zhanjia was a Chinese production designer and art director. Born in Wuqing, Tianjin, in August 1936, he graduated in 1963 from the architecture and fine arts department of the Central Academy of Arts & Design (now Tsinghua University Academy of Arts & Design) and later taught there. He joined the Beijing Film Studio in 1972.

He served as production designer on Farewell My Concubine (1993) and Seven Swords (2005), and as supervising art director on Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000). Other credits include art direction on Fearless (2006) and Chinese Odyssey 2002 (2002). He was a national first-class film art designer and a member of the China Film Art Society. Yang died on 25 February 2023 in Beijing.
